Wool is a highly resilient form of bedding. On top of this, it has the natural warmth and comfort that other materials can only mimic, so it is very important that it is kept in good condition throughout its potentially long and accomplished life. A turn off for many people is the effort involved in taking care of wool. However, a good way to look at your relationship with wool is that if you take care of it, it will take care of you. With this in mind, here are a few ways you can get the most out of your woollen bedding items.

Quality Products

If your woollen items are not of a high quality, there’s only so much all your care and affection can do before they need to be replaced. It’s always best to have the best, so be sure to get your bedding items from a producer that only uses authentic, high quality wool. For examples of what the best woollen quilts and other products look like, check out the MiniJumbuk website.

Sunlight

There are benefits to exposing your sheets to natural sunlight. Sunlight serves as a dryer, an antiseptic and a deodoriser, and all you have to do is place your bedding items in the right spot. This only needs to be done once or twice a year, depending on the climate, and the sheets should remain outside for the entire day.

Washing and Drying

It’s imperative that you wash your wool items with cold water. Warm water tends to shrink wool and wear it down. If your washing machine has a slow spin option, set it to that. If not, it might be best to wash the materials by hand. To remove itchiness, soaking your item in cold water and hair conditioner has been known to do wonders. Not only does it get rid of the itch, but it also leaves the blanket feeling soft and inviting. Wool will usually dry overnight no matter where it is but, if you’re looking to have it dry as soon as possible, sunlight is probably best again. If this is not a possibility, hanging it in front of your heater should also do the trick.

Keeping It Soft

You’ll want to touch up your wool a few times a month so that it stays nice and soft. You can do this by brushing the blankets down until any build up of dirt is removed and a soft surface is regained. This should also get rid of pilling, which is a common downside of wool products. Fabric shavers will do this job more effectively, and even regular razors can work. To remove animal hairs or any other debris of that nature, brush it down with a lint roller or a ball of wool.

Aside from being cosy and seeming warmer than most fabrics, wool has many other perks worth considering. It’s long-lasting, allergy-friendly, and absorbs/releases body moisture more effectively than other materials, enhancing your sleep and allowing you to wake up feeling refreshed. So, while wool bedding might require a bit more effort to maintain, it will support you more efficiently in the long run.
